mini road trip

February 5th, 2005

Today was such a lovely day, I thought Cassidy and I would hop on the road and venture out to Binghamton for something to do. So we gave Aunt Marty a call to see if she was free for the day (and she was!) then jumped in the van for the 35 mile trek south.

Once we picked up Aunt Marty, we stopped at Friendly's for a nice lunch (man was that place packed!) then headed more downtown to find Binghamton's one and only yarn store, Spin A Yarn (well its the only one as far as I can tell anyway!)

Its a lovely store in an old house. Plenty of variety from what I saw. My only disappointment was that most of it, at least appeared to be, "scarf yarn". Okay, okay....a whole wall of Dale wool and cotton, but I tend to lean towards the Cascades and the Lambs Pride stuff.

They do have a better variety of sock yarns than I'm used to, so it was nice to feel up sock yarns that I've only heard about. Oh and 5" Brittany Birch needles, a monster which I've never been able to find locally (back in Madison)

The shocker? NO Addi Turbos. None, nada zilch. Instead they carry Inox. Granted I've never personally used Inox, but the join looks iffy to me (compared to Addi Turbo) and I just love the feel and weight (or weightlessness) of Addi Turbos.

I did walk away with two skeins of Nature Spun in eucalyptus, to make Fuzzy Feet for my sister Tracy. I just hope the Nature Spun felts as well as Lambs Pride worsted. I also picked up a skein of Plymouth Encore Worsted in a mauve (Cassidy picked it out) to go with a clearance ball of some pink eyelash stuff called Wendy Jazz. I totally forgot that my last trip to Lakeside before we left Madison, I bought two skeins of Sirdar Snuggly DK from the clearance basket which would have gone nicely with the clearance pink eyelashy stuff from today's trip. Oh well. I left spending the least amount of money I've ever spent in ANY yarn store, so that has to count for something, right? The bonus? Its tax free week in New York. Since yarn is used to make clothing...no tax...SCORE!

We arrived home to see that Richard was outside with the boys in the snow. So after a little while of riding bikes in the driveway, we came inside for the virgin run of the S'mores maker Aunt Marty gave the kids for Christmas. A pack of grahams, half a bag of marshmallows and several hershey bars later...we're winding down for the day.

Tonight I have nothing planned but putting on jammies, warm woolies on my feet, wrapping up in front of the tv with some needles and string!

Around a year ago on this day..
