Nantasket Basket

April 17th, 2005

...is an incredibly quick knit! I did learn a few things on my test run. My NZ wool is not very good felting wool afterall. This basket took SEVEN extra long wash cycles to get to this point and I'm still not happy with the "felt" (I like to see NO resemblance of a knit stitch) And for some odd reason I had a really hard time getting a non bulky seam with this wool (maybe because it lacks proper spring?)

I will also on my next go round, do the handles differently so that there isnt a seam in the middle. Maybe its the lack of proper felting but the handle seam showing is bugging me.

*drumroll*....before and after pics...

Basket1

Taken at midnight when I finished weaving in ends, right before it made its maiden voyage into the GE Prodigy

Basket2

Extremely fuzzy and in need of some "picking", with a few kitchen towels tucked in for shaping.

I already have another one on the needles and about halfway done. Really what else was I supposed to do in the wee hours of the morning while I was felting? The one on the needles is mule spinner wool from Custom Woolen Mills in gray and pink, which felts very well. With this gray and pink one, I'm planning on a bit of applique, or maybe some felt flowers...who knows :)

Around a year ago on this day..
