Nantasket Basket…Round TWO
April 18th, 2005As I expected, the second go round was a much nicer knitting experience. AND..the felting session was much quicker! Must_make_more. Seriously. This is an addictive quick knit! I'm imagining all sorts of things to do with the sides other than the plain (what I did) or the woven wicker motif (also in the pattern)
I'm seeing baskets with intarsia flowers or words....Oh the possibilities!
I did do some things differently. I didn't use US 10.5 needles this time because the only ones I have are from my Denise kit and I despise knitting wool with those needles. Talk about sticky! By the time I get a few rounds done my hands ache. So I did them on US10 Bates needles (the only Bates needles I like..the nice plated ones with the black cord..cannot remember what they are called) And I did the handle differently than how the pattern was written so that I could eliminate that seam/graft in the middle of the handle. I have to say I liked my way better.

Carla, if you Kitchener the stitches together at the top of the handle, there’s absolutely no seam or bump. You just have to re-arrange the stitches after you knit the last row of the double I-cord. If you want a longer explanation, feel free to write to me.
Your basket is wonderful!

Susan I figured that out after my first basket, but I really do like the way I did it better (starting at one side, double i-cord all the way across, then split and join it to the two legs from the other side)
I hope you didnt take offense to my posting about “my way”. Not intended at all
I often alter patterns to suit my own way of doing things…I still think its a FAB pattern!

Oh, no offense. I’ve never knit a pattern exactly as it’s written.
Sometimes it’s easier to just do something than it is to explain it in a pattern.
