Socks…the dilemma
July 22nd, 2005I would love to be able to ask my sock pal, which pattern would most delight her when they arrived. What colorway would just (pun intended) knock her socks off. Initially I thought the retro ribs, but well I'm just not sure.
Here is all the socks I've started, stalled, or tested. The green finished sock is Whitby from Knitting On The Road by Nancy Bush. I loved knitting the sock. The pattern, although it looks complicated is easy to memorize. I found I could knit this easily without paying too much attention (like while watching tv) The only problem is the yarn I chose to do the test run with (a brand I've never heard of before, a sport weight stretch cotton, which was won on ebay) The yarn is lovely...just not for this pattern. In the end it came out way too small and is Cassidy-sized. Above that is the ever-on-hold, Broadripples in purple Fixation. I started it then decided I was just burnt out on Broadripples. Next to that is the Retro Ribs in Kroy Sock. Like I said in a previous post, it just seems like my gauge is way off (too big) I've tried both my 12" circ and DPNs. Neither make any difference. And all the way to the right is the Cables and Ribs "start of a sock", also by Nancy Bush from the new IK. The yarn is Fortissima Colori. As I said with that one. I dislike the double cast on and how it makes it look "ruffly" Maybe its supposed to do that...but I don't like it.
Anyway, I just ordered some Opal Petticoat, enough for two pairs, and I have bunches of Sockotta on hand, as well as some cream Kroy Socks. Its not like I'm lacking the stash, although I would love to play with some Koigu KPPM as well. Then again, I must stay focused and not buy more yarn. It will ultimately only result in more "half projects", and these socks need to be done (or at least decided on!)
There would of course be more knitworthy news to write about, if I wasn't spread so thin this week between momming, soccer, and HP6. No worries though. HP6 should be wrapped up in the next few days (time allowing) and knitting will come front and center to keep my mind busy during the long, long, loooooong wait for book 7.
Around a year ago on this day..

If I was your sock pal, I would just love those last socks, the pastel ones.
BTW, Opal TIGER is back!!! check it out at http://www.theknittingzone.com That’s my next sock yarn purchase. Oh, knitpicks has 2 new ones as well.
Oops, guess that did not help you *not* buy more yarn, huh?

I like the Colori, too. Well, I like them all, actually!
I’m having your problem: So many possibilities, and I can’t decide …

Now I don’t feel so bad. I thought I was reading my post. Too many yarns, too many patterns. What to do, what to do?
It’s like swimming. Are you one of those who sticks her toes in the water or just right jumps in?
Time to jump in and swim!
