Yay, something besides politics!

August 14th, 2005

So, I've been busting my arse on this christening dress for Olivia. Considering all the time I've put into it (and into ripping it back out), the damn thing should be done by now. But I started over from scratch this past week, totally winging it on my own without that horrible Patons pattern.

I was halfway up the skirt and not entirely happy with how my "pointelle" was knitting up. So I was telling Richard about it this morning and he said that after he looked at my sketch, he assumed the dots were beads and not pointelle. Now why on earth didn't I think of that?

So I went to the new bead store in town and got the perfect beads, stopped at Joann for an uber small crochet hook. I then sat down to rip back to where I first started the pointelle. I have to say, things were going along swimmingly. I wasn't dropping stitches and it just seemed way too easy. That is until I realized Richard was in the recliner, snoring. Then out of the corner of my eye I see the baby heading out the front door. I jumped, tossed my knitting down on the floor, retrieved #4 child,  and called children #1, #2, and #3 back into the house (they had left the door open) By the time I got back to my heap of knitting on the floor the baby had gotten his hands on it (shall I go further, or are you getting the big picture?)

So after spending a good hour, just totally PO'd and frustrated, I picked it up again, started stringing beads on the now, untangled and re wound ball of Dale Stork. I'm happy to report that this early morning hour of 2:20 AM, I have beads strung, casted on, finished picot hem, and am just about to start the first row of beads. So I'm still behind, but I seem to have gained some ground tonight. If I devote a good amount of time on it tomorrow, I may be back to where I started ripping today.  Tracy is supposed to come up for the day tomorrow though, so I'm not sure how much knitting time I'll get.

Speaking of that. Tracy is supposed to bring me my disc of the wedding pictures (I hope she remembers!)

Around a year ago on this day..

There really should be a PICTURE with this entry. I never thought of beads either, but it sounds fantastic!

Do you mean pictures of Connor wrapped in wads of Dale Stork? Or the re-knit?
I’m going to try to take a pic tomorrow of the re-knit now that I’ve gotten to the beading part. Its looking nice, even though I didn’t get as much time on it today as I hoped.
