a knitting update

September 21st, 2005

So months ago, I bought 6 skeins of Dale of Norway Baby Ull in spring green for a baby gift for my friend Kira (due early October)
So now that socks are done, shipped, and assumed recieved, I can move onto other pressing projects.
Now, when I bought that Baby Ull, I did not have a pattern in mind. Someone smack me. I need to get out of the stash building mode, buying yarn for stash sake and actually have a project/pattern in mind!
Baby Ull is fingering weight. Think I can find a boyish baby pattern that uses fingering yarn, besides socks?  And when I gander at Dale's Baby Ull books, its all intarsia, which, well, is not my favorite thing to do. In fact, I'd rather crochet than do intarsia!
I'm stumped, but I'll keep looking.

The ripping process on the thrift store sweaters. I wasnt able to get much of the silk cashmere sweater. Just too worn and pilly, and the yarn kept breaking. Oh well. The bulky wine cotton was done in a flash though, as was the blue Old Navy wool sweater. The multi gray/black sweater is half unwound and for such a fine furry yarn, its actually going along nicely. But after hours yesterday of ripping and unwinding/winding, I need a break. Besides that...the angora was starting to make me sneeze like crazy. Yes, definitely time for a break

For a quick in between project, I casted on WineCozy from knitty.com last night in some vari purple stash wool (from a vintage ebay buy) I gotta say, next one I make I'll be doing in the round rather than flat and seaming. I also need to make another one a slightly bigger diameter. My favorite wine, Sofia Rose` has a curvy bottle shape as you can see via the link (very pretty bottle! I have a hard time throwing them in the recycle bin)  Anyway, the pattern says any worsted yarn, but suggests acrylic. Acrylic is not really allowed in this house unless it comes my way via my mom (the acrylic queen) so wool it is :) I have a few skeins of Cascade 220 Quattro which would be very pretty in this pattern.

Other than the Baby Ull pattern searching, the unwinding of sneezy yarn, and the knitting of an uber cool wine cozy, not much else has been going on. I'm loving my new treadmill, and making time for it every morning (a half hour or so)

And tonight is.....LOST SEASON PREMIER NIGHT and oh my goodness am I excited!  Friends Joe and Janet, are driving down tonight to watch with us. We're all anxious to find out whats inside the hatch (although I read a spoiler and I'm pretty sure I know what the island is! And it completely plays into my longstanding theory about this entire show!)  We'll have plenty of goodies too, some Sofia, cheese, crackers, fruit, and even some tropical blender drinks (our LOST night tradition...pina coladas or daquiris, every Wednesday night! Complete with little umbrellas!)

Now...off to do some house cleaning before I jump on the treadmill :)

Around a year ago on this day..
