Lets get some things straight…

September 27th, 2005

I got a little snide remark in comments from someone named "Dee", about my post that only included the screen shot from headline news, "Bush Sucks Wheres FEMA", claiming that the mayor of NOLA, kept strip clubs open whilst people died. Now where you got that, I don't know, but perhaps you should switch back to the reality based news  instead of the completely made up variety. The busses, were used as much as they could from everything I've read and could find. There was not 2000 busses as everyone likes to state, there was something like 300.  And I'll add that I talked to a very close friend of ours last night who let us know that they still have family that can't find in NOLA. The ones that they were able to get in touch with stated that after a week of waiting for help, the military finally came in and shot a gator that had been terrorizing them while they waited for rescue, and feasting on dead bodies.
And besides all that, her comment, "oh yeah, this is a knitting blog".....
EVERYONE, LOOK UP. See what it says there? Motherhood, fiber, and PROGRESSIVE POLITICS.
And before that, it says CARLA'S MUSINGS.  I pay for my typepad account. I maintain it. My blog contains my opinions and thoughts, be it whatever it is I'm knitting, or whatever is going on the world that makes me happy or honestly pisses me off. Nowhere, NOWHERE do I call this a "knitting blog".
So, if you don't like my political banter, and only want the knitting content, look at the categories and click KNITTING. I make no secret of hating George W. Bush. I have since he was the governor of Texas. So if my comments piss you off that much about the worst.president.ever, please, don't visit because I'm not going to change.

Around a year ago on this day..

Cass, see you are an exception. You and I have thoughtful debate and *share* our views and try to teach each other facts about our opposing sides. There is a difference :)

LOL Crissy. Give the new SCOTUS lineup some time, I’m sure they’ll find a way to make it treasonous.

Don’t you just hate it when someone thinks with their ***? Oy! I knit during C-Span, too, and it has really been messin’ with my knitting. Today when Drownie said “I’m not going to make this into a partisan issue — we help states with Democratic governors as well as Republican governors — but the Democratic leadership failed …” I thought niiiiiiiiice. If they weren’t playing partisan, why even mention it?

Anyway, keep on doing what you do. You know you hit a nerve when you get really dumb comments!

ROFL! Was “Drownie” a typo? It’s funny either way, but just wondering if it’s a Freudian slip, there.

FWIW, I don’t think Nagin and Blanco failed because they were Democrats. They failed because they did not take the situation seriously until way too late. They failed because they did not follow their own written policies. Ans which wingnut is saying 2000 buses?

Carla, just shake people off, as I know you will. I know on my own blog, it seems to be cyclic. One week, all politics, the next nothing but ‘nittin’. Yours is the same way.

I was reading over At My Knit’s End, and she is getting slammed by wingnuts, too. I had to issue an apology for conservative, Christian Homeschoolers after some hatchet job really lit into her. Why do people think that helps? Helps to facilitate dialogue, helps to change minds, helps to do anything but offend, helps to do anything but encourage the painting of broad groups of people with a single vermillion paint brush? Geez!

Cass, Kerstin that said “Drownie” IS “At My Knits End” :) So she knows all too well, about the hacks you get notes from.

As for the busses. I would have to go search and search. I caught it on about 10 different wingnut blogs, and it was circulating on republican talking points emails.

And about Naggin and Blanco. I have NEVER ever given them a pass on all of this. I think there was miscommunication and poor direction to some degree. But I agree with what others (in emergency management have said, like the former dep. cheif of FEMA under James Lee Witt…) that Naggin, Blanco and Brown hold about 30% of the blame. The rest is administration, for tearing apart FEMA, placing it under a huge umbrella of homeland security. Not to mention the rampant cronyism.

Kerstin, I watched Brown on C-Span yesterday too. And parts I missed, I caught later on last night during nightly news snippets. Blanco fired back a statement that I think is right on.
Cass, Brown yesterday was really passing the buck. I have little respect for those that pass the buck, especially when you’ve been caught (and he was). It was all excuses, “its not my fault, its the democrats”. Blah blah blah.

Cass, you can watch CSpan on the internet (they have a live stream) if its something that interests you.

and I wanted to add. It didnt “hurt my feelings”
If anything I was just um, pissed off and put off by mention of Naggin wanting to leave the strip clubs open. I mean, come on….you know that is completely made up. And on the heels of talking to Judith the night before, learning about her rescued family, and those still missing. I just wanted to say, “yo bitch, you have some nerve!”

oh. (Cass speaks in tiny little embarrassed voice). Hi Kerstin.

Up the blame for the trio to 50%-60%, and I’ll see you the FEMA junk for the rest. So, once again, we basically agree. Just how is, again, that you are a “librul”?

As for watching C-Span, without cable I don’t know what’s coming on, but I have been known to watch it on the puter if I found out something I was interested in was coming on.

I am *not* interested in these hearings. Why? Wastet of time. With the Dems boycotting, nothing is going to be solved here. People are going to “present the facts as they see them”, and that’s all. The Reps can’t act to change things without the Dems, so. Who do I blame for that? Both of the little childish, temper throw parties.

I just want FEMA separate from DHS. Natural disasters are not a security issue. Er, natural disasters should not be a security issue, though we discussed last week how they certainly can be.

your blog—say what you want—sometimes I read it and my mouth falls open in shock but I make no comment except to Cass “your views are so different and ya”ll are friends” or “Carla is in left field on that one”. Be a sad, sad world if everyone was the same. After the Garden of Eden incident I think God gave us different personalities so that we would be different. Write on!!!!!!!!!! Please take no offense, just wanted you to know that I agree with your freedom of speech!

Mama Nellie, I take your words has a high compliment!

I’ve told Cass many a time,…the world requires opposite views. Its the only way a democratic society can function.
And we can all see, throughout history and NOW, that when one side has too much power, corruption follows.
    No offense taken!
