The best darn husband, ever.

October 5th, 2005

Richard is, without a doubt, the best man I've ever known. Its my good fortune, that he is mine, and mine for good :)
Not only does he love me and put up with my knitty fibery obsessions, but he notices everything. Like how I always grab the kid's little chair to put my feet up on when I sit in my glider and knit. Or how I obsess over storage ottomans when I see them in stores. He went one step further and MADE something for me for our anniversary (September 22nd)

Ottoman1Isnt it beautiful? Completely hand crafted without the luxury of a true woodshop (which would have made the whole task much easier!)
The only part that is not absolutely perfect, is the part I had a hand in helping with (the upholstered top. No matter what I did, I could not get it to fit just right and tight enough)
In any case, I absolutely LOVE it!  And it gets better....

Ottoman2the framing for the sliding drawer/shelf is made of cedar to help protect my precious woolies. That drawer is cedar framed, with a plexiglass bottom, so it can be seen through, and doesnt obstruct viewing what is inside.

Really, this is probably my most favorite gift from him, ever ;)

Your chest is such an orignal idea as a handmade gift. Yes, it does sound as if he is observant and yes it will be good for your yarn. A piece to show w/pride.

    hee! Thanks everyone!
Crissy, actually he would, but considering he doesnt have a traditional wood shop, everything takes 10 times longer to do (and get it straight) So all the hand work and time, it would cost a small fortune. I know how much he spent on materials for this, add the time, and this particular ottoman, as it should be, is priceless!
