We’re back from camping
October 17th, 2005We're back, and as usual, we can never have a successful weekend away without some sort of glitch.
This time, it was the power in the cottage.
We arrived at about 7:30PM on Friday night to find that the power was on, but "dim", meaning we couldnt have the fridge on, or a radio...and with each light you turned on, the rest would dim down.
A phone call was made, and someone came to take a look at it. However, nothing could really be done until the next day.
Saturday morning, they came, promptly turned off all power, and thats the way it stayed all day. Finally, at about 8PM on Saturday night, it was back on.
Now this wouldn't sound so bad, except that it was a very cold and rainy weekend, so there wasnt much we could do outside. And Jill nor myself had brought a big enough cooler to keep our perishable foods cool because we counted on the fridge working. Now I need to call and get a new refill for Richard's insulin, because I'm just not confident it stayed cool enough all weekend.
Oh, and we all brought bathing suits so we could enjoy the hot tub. But the owner drained the hot tub the day before our arrival. Why? I'm not sure, but he knew we were coming. On Saturday he agreed to bring our bill down because of the lack of anticipated hot tub. And when we checked out on Sunday I brought up the fact that we had no power until late Saturday night, and we couldnt even shower until then. We ended up with another discount.
What could have been a wonderful weekend, was completely brought down by the lack of electricity issue.
With that all said, for the short period of time that the sun was out on Saturday, the kids played on the very muddy playground, and I sat on the deck and did a few more pattern repeats on Clapotis (our deck was overlooking the playground) I think I have two more repeats to go, then I can start the decreases.
The kids did get to dress up and go trick or treating. And we went to the party in the rec hall afterwards for a little while. We took a few pictures, (or at least I think Richard did) so once I can get on the pc (I'm currently on my ibook) I'll upload the camera pics and post a few in the October album.
No Yarn Harlot in Skaneateles tonight. Due to the death in her family, the Rhinebeck and Skaneateles dates were cancelled. I'm bummed, but I completely understand. Maybe I'll catch her another time somewhere else. Instead, I'll drink hot cocoa here at home, and maybe work some more on Clapotis.
Around a year ago on this day..
