Welcome to Hell

November 5th, 2005

Remember I posted not long ago about our biggest fear? That the house we currently rent, would sell before we knew where we were going to be going (new job)?
Well, word this morning, is that there is an offer on the house. The folks we rent from are great, and tried to put my mind at ease that they do not want us to have to move over Christmas, and are doing their best to make the closing date close to the end of Richard's contract with SUNY-Cortland (first week of February)
But...we still don't know where we'll be going. It will be extremely difficult to find interim housing with most people wanting a lease. If it were just Richard and I, I wouldnt stress so much, but with kids, especially kids in school, this will be difficult.
Richard is already stressed to the max this morning, and I'm a heartbeat from a nervous breakdown.

I'll say again. SUNY-Cortland sucks. We moved here for that job. We gave up a city we loved, a job Richard had a solid future with, for something we thought would be a good step forward. This should not have been a gamble. Richard should not have been harrassed by his boss. He should not have had to deal with her daily attempts to "set him up" for a reason to dismiss him. In the end she just made up the reasons anyway. He should have expected to actually do the job that was in the job description (the reason he interviewed for it anyway) and not be treated like a grunt editor. Had we known only a quarter of the shit we now know, we would have stayed in Madison, and Richard would still be going to work every day with the professional, ethical, and intelligent folks at the Wisconsin DNR.
I wish more people had been honest with us about the office he was to work in at SUNY-Cortland. After the non renewal of his contract, all sorts of people came out of the woodwork and had nothing sunny to say about his former boss. Ya know, I can't think of one person that had anything decent to say about her. Everyone knows the piss poor job she does. Everyone knows that Richard wasnt the first to be victim of her incompetence. Every_one.  Too bad we didn't know these things.

So its been a few months since the non renewal,  many resumes have been sent. Only one interview resulted (and he was ultimately passed for that job)  We are becoming that statistic so common in political conversations these days.  One month, one week, one paycheck away from disaster.
I'm scared. And I know Richard is too. Man this sucks.

So...anyone have any inside information on a position for a guy with a Master of Fine Arts, heavy concentration in electronic media, specialization in web development and marketing?
*sigh*

Around a year ago on this day..

I hoping for the best for you guys with the job hunt and house closing!

When you have a boss that is for shit, at least it teaches you what not to do if you ever become a boss yourself. In some cases, what REALLY REALLY not to do, which seems like common courtesy most of the time.
