We’re Home - Turkey Day - Black Friday MADNESS

November 27th, 2005

We're home after several days visiting my family in Pennsylvania for the holiday. I can report that fun was had by all, despite the "too many people in one house" type of chaos. As always, the kids loved visiting Grandma and Grammy. Cassidy and Alex even got to have a sleep over at Aunt Jill's house on Friday night.
Besides leftover turkey on Friday, Jill and I ventured out in the weeeeeee hours of the morning to do some Christmas shopping. Jill, my sister, the Walmart Queen, of course wanted to hit Walmart when it opened for a few key items for Ethan (only one of which we walked away with) Talk about madness! Walmart advertised HP laptops for 389.00. Wanna know how many of them they actually had on hand?  Out of the probably 500 people there to get one, there were only thirty computers. There were police, lots of shoving, and grown adults screaming at eachother "BACK OFF, ITS MINE!"  I'll let you know, we were not there for a HP computer.
Jill wanted to get the Leap Pad for a mere 25.00. And I spotted a Cabbage Patch Kid, that on the shelf, the price was 18.79. At the register, the doll rang up at 28.99. I protested, they told me too bad, they were far too busy to go back and check, and the toy department phone was busy. So I said screw it, keep it. Then Jill's leappad rang up at nearly 50.00 (the BIG sign under the display of leap pads said 25.00) Jill protested, the snotty Walmart girl said we picked up the wrong one. We insisted the sign said 25.00 and indeed the one on sale. She insisted that we got it on the opposite end of the store than where the "25 dollar Leap Pads" are and said we needed to get out of line to go get another. Screw that Jill said and we were off to KMart, which was a MUCH better experience!
Anyway, despite the insane people, and the traffic, we actually had fun. We spent more time laughing at the Black Friday crazy people  than anything else!
Later that day, my mom and Gram watched Connor and Dylan (Alex and Cassidy went to Aunt Jill's) so Richard and I got to go out on a date! We went to see Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire. Very good flick, but as one of those crazy HP book fans, soooo much was cut from the movie (expected!) I noticed in the beginning of the movie, it sort of jumped around a lot, hitting key elements of the story. Richard didn't think anything of it, having not read the books, it seemed normal to him.
Overall though, it was good. I really do hope though, that they break HP & The Order Of The Phoenix up into two films instead of one chopped up movie.

So thats the nutshell version of my past few days. Not much knitting to mention except that purple broadripple sock number two is nearly done (I imagine I'll finish it this evening watching tv) OH, and Aunt Marlene loved her drop stitch Colinette scarf! I snapped pics of it right before we left for PA, once I unpack and find the camera, I'll load it up!

Around a year ago on this day..

Glad U had a nice visit with your family. When Cass was living out of state, I so looked forward to her visits. Now that she is only a mile away, I still look forward to them, but now we do not have to stay up till 2 or 3 every morning and get back up early to squeeze everything in.

Thanks for giving K-Mart a passing grade!! We were extremely busy also, but we had very few discrepancies. Several managers were at checkoput just to insure smooth sailing.

I thought the Harry Potter movie was lame with the exception of a few good scenes saved by the technical aspects rather than the story.

It’s not that I didn’t notice the choppiness, it’s more that I didn’t care. Harry is way too feminine for someone who was mistreated by a harsh aunt and uncle.

Overall, disappointed in Potter. I’ll probably see the others since Carla likes them, but this is definitely turning into a series more for females and emasculated, pansy, apron string hangers.
