What else could possibly happen?

November 28th, 2005

So, y'all know that there was an offer on the house, right?
Well, we got a call last night around 8:30, that the closing is set, and its much sooner than anyone thought it would be. Our target date to move now, is January 15th.
No job offer, no idea where where we should go. No idea really, what to do.

Every year for the past few Christmases, something has come up. Last year was chaotic, but we were in the midst of moving here, a move we thought was in the right direction (ha!) This year, we get slammed again. Its almost enough to say "Screw Christmas!" I swear, I lose a little more spirit every year that passes.

And although the whole "Cortland experience" we've had has got me down, Christmas as a whole has me down. Alex, the kid who rarely really asks for anything, or anything "big" for that matter, has been asking for this specific toy for months now. I thought he was saying "cell sucker" but it turns out what he was asking for was a Shell Shocker. I walked into Toys R Us last week asking the lady for a Cell Sucker, she chuckled and said "a Shell Shocker? We're all sold out, but just so you know its $79.99"
Did ya get that? SEVENTY NINE, NINETY NINE! And it doesnt even include the special Tyco battery that it requires to run at a whopping 30 bucks!  So I check eBay and apparently its acheived Tickle Me Elmo popularity because no one can find one, and people are paying just as much or more for these things!
It breaks my heart really, that 1) I can't get the "cool toy" for my boy. 2) other little boys are asking for it and won't get it and 3) that the freaking thing is THAT expensive, meaning that even if they were available, LOTS of little boys would be pushed out of getting one based on the price alone.
I've already told Alex that Mama and Daddy have to pay "the Santa bill" and the Shell Shocker is outside of the Santa budget. He looks a little perplexed when I tell him this, and then a little sad. Until the next commercial comes on and he yells "Mama! See, THAT is it. Thats the thing I want! Isnt it COOL?"  Damn Tyco and Christmas capitolism!

Around a year ago on this day..

Well…you could have a kid needing an emergency appendectomy! Check my blog later for that story. Seriously tho’ sorry to hear about your travails….keep a stiff upper lip as the British say…things will be ok in the end and who knows, they may even be better. I hope you still plan on coming to the spin meet.
