wow, a whole week has passed!
November 20th, 2005Wow, I just realized a week has passed since I last posted!
But y'all know, Richard's parents were here so I was spending my time much more constructively than blogging (gasp!)
We didn't do a great deal while they were here, except a trip to Ithaca to see Buttermilk Falls. The week was mostly spent just together. The kids especially enjoyed having Nana and Papa here.
I did end up with the tummy ickies the night they left, and all I can say is that the older I get, the worse I feel when I get one of these bugs. Seriously, 12 hours of the actual virus, then another 24 of recovery while sleeping. Yes, sleeping for 24 hours is what I did.
I recovered just in time to watch the House debate the war resolution on Friday. What a freaking sideshow that was. I have a whole emotional post to make about that but will need to set aside some time. I'll give you a little snippet of my opinoin though. People who voted for Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) are much like the people who vote for scumbags like Tom Delay. Complete and total morons. I'm sure most have seen a clip of her now infamous speech on the house floor. But I'm not sure that before Thursday many knew very much about John Murtha (D- Pennsylvania), a hawk who I would say is a "democrat in name only", but an upstanding member of the house and decorated war veteran. If John Murtha comes out against this war, you can bet your ass, he is getting some pretty dismal concerns from Generals at the Pentagon. Now, the link of the video.
The most disgusting thing in all this? The politics. John Murtha proposes a resolution. Something that should be debated. What does the GOP do? They take it upon themselves to copy that resolution, changing KEY details of it and putting it up for debate and vote. The keys here are that Murtha's resolution did NOT, NOT, NOT call for IMMEDIATE withdrawal. It did not call to "Cut and Run". It said, to pull out of Iraq at a reasonable time, RE DEPLOY our military at a place where we can still combat terrorism and keep Iraq from imploding on itself. The GOP's "re-written" resolution...."IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL". So of course, nearly ALL house members voted nay. It would indeed be insane to just pull them out tomorrow.
The GOP has once again, solidified in my mind, what a bunch of twisted corrupt assholes they really are.
