Finally…

March 16th, 2006

Yes finally...some "settling" is going on.
The stove that Dad gave us, it turns out, while it was being stored in his garage, played habitat for some mice. Because of that, all of the oven's insulation needed to be replaced. Not a cold weather task, since it would need to be dismantled outdoors in warmer weather, hosed down, etc. Dad is going to fix it, and then either give it to someone else, or sell it. It really is a VERY nice stove, and only a few years old at that, but we just couldn't wait for warmer weather to fix the stove. Instead we went and bought one...and a washer too. Ouch.  But we now have four working appliances (still can't find the toaster, but that's another story!)
So today I'm going to bake something in my new oven. Something sinfully sweet and delish.
Things are starting to settle. At least we're at a point where the house is livable. Boxes everywhere, but its livable. Now we can unpack in a more organized fashion, rather than urgently rooting through boxes looking for a needed item.
Yay.

And Llamie,...I made home made Irish cream last night! Next time you visit, we said we were going to make some, didn't we?  I used a tad more whiskey, and it was perfect. Sipped it last night while we watched Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire with the kids. I slept very well last night :)

As for knitting. I'm taking a brief hiatus as much as I hate doing it. My hands are incredibly dry, and I do mean, DRY. Cracked, bleeding sort of dry. So knitting is a tad painful. I was able to do a few rounds on Badcaul a few nights ago while watching TV, but it was very slow going. I snagged a new Mary Kay Satin Hands set on eBay for about one quarter what it retails for. With any luck it will arrive soon since I've used up every last drop from my last set! Its truly the only thing that heals my hands when they get this bad, and I've tried just about everything!

Around a year ago on this day..

Glad you added more whiskey. Stoned Knitter and I both like it with 2 cups whiskey instead of 1 1/2. Cheers!

Welcome to Syracuse! I hope we get a chance to knit together soon, after your hands are healed, of course. I am totally in awe that you continued to blog while moving. Unbelievable! BTW, I’m sipping a Bailey’s right now, although mine is the store bought variety. Afterall, it is St. Pat’s eve, eh? Just getting ready to celebrate at Coleman’s tomorrow!!! Again, hope to see you soon.

Hi there… if you’ve just moved to Syracuse… get thee to the nearest Walmart and buy some “Udder Balm”. Ask for it near the pharmacy. It’s only a couple dollars and it’s absolutely fantastic for really dry, cracked hands. Is really is made to use on cow udders (I know.. yuck).. but trust me, it will help your hands :-)

Good luck in Syracuse! My sister went to college there. Hope you are settling in well. A little housewarming thingy will be on it’s way soon.

Hey Carla, sorry to hear about the stove… but glad things are resolved. Mary Kay night cream is the best for your hands, although i have been using Gold Bond Ultimate lately and it works well too. Check it out. For best results, i usually put it on with a pair of gloves overnight. Will probably give you a call today. Love you all, Ma
