Political Fodder

March 22nd, 2006

Now, you know when you move, and you get a new phone number, it rings off the hook, usually looking for the person who had the number previous to you? Well...this new phone number has resulted in the same thing we experienced when we moved to Cortland last year. Ugh!
So a little while ago, as I rush around attempting to get ready for my dentist appointment, the phone rings, asking for this same person, whom we've gotten a zillion phone calls for, always at a realllllly bad time. I do my schpiel..this is our new number, just moved in..yada yada. But she goes on and says "well, maybe you can help" and introduces herself as someone from some Republican something or other. Now usually, I'd cut them off right there because in my experience when I get these calls, they're always asking for money (imagine me laughing hysterically during these phone calls) But I let her go on. She then rattled off about 10 "concerns" that Americans may have, and asked me which one I thought most important. Iraq of course.  Then she goes on to ask, if I think George W. Bush is handling Iraq well, poorly, or if I have no opinion or need more information. I didn't stutter, I didn't hesitate, and I think you know my answer.   To that she sounded disappointed and said quietly,..."oh" (another pause) "well, thank you for your time"
It wasn't nearly as fun as the time the Republican party called me and asked if I'd like to attend an Innaugural Ball in Madison for George W. Bush's presidential win in 2004. I honestly let that woman have an ear full (like having been nothing, ever, but a registered Democrat, why on earth would they call ME? And ask for me by NAME?)

Anyway...For those with Comedy Central, my hero, Russ Feingold, will be on The Daily Show tonight. If you have access to Comedy Central...do yourself a favor...watch!

Around a year ago on this day..
