progress and disappointment
March 14th, 2006Well, we have a refrigerator in the kitchen now, and its running. This is a very good thing! Late last night, after the kids were in bed, we were able to finally get the doors off, and move it into the house (oy! GE side by side through narrow doors, long hallway from back door, through the living room, dining room, and finally through the narrow kitchen door!) Then we had to tackle replacing the cord, since the plug itself got stepped on while we were moving things in the truck, and one of the plug prongs snapped off. But that was done quickly, and before we knew it, it was slid into place, doors replaced, and voila....refrigerated food. What a novelty!
And the dryer should be working this morning (still need to buy a dryer vent hose though...this afternoon) But my washer, I'm sad to say, must depart and be sent off to major appliance heaven. Whats wrong with it? A bearing in the brake. But that brake is actually in the transmission assembly, so the whole kit and caboodle would need to be ordered and put in. Ouch! A little more than half what we paid for the washer. But the appliance repairman said, the computer board in these GE models are flighty, and there is no saying that won't go next. And THAT repair would cost more than what we actually paid for my beloved Prodigy washer. So...we're shopping for a new washer.....hopefully SOON.
The stove conversion parts have been ordered...and hopefully they will be in stock (and ready to install today) otherwise it may be a few days.
But...there are fewer boxes blocking hallways and room entrances. And my pantry shelving is up (another late chore we accomplished last night) and I can start putting away kitchen stuff.
Then its closets and toys...
And then hopefully....getting some window coverings. There are scads of windows in this house. Old beautiful windows. I'd love to get these shutters for all of the windows in the living room, dining room and office, but that would come up to well over $800.00, not including toppers above them! Maybe I'll do two at a time...who knows. If not those, I may get out the sewing machine, spend half that on a gazillion yards of fabric and make curtains/drapes.

An office? I’m jealous. We need at least a fiber room, an office and a library here. Oh and a guest room….or two
