Yet another disasterous move
March 13th, 2006Ok, not so much disastrous, as in no one was seriously injured. Nor did anything of great significance break. No freak weather. No stuck or broken down u-haul. It was just freaking hard!
None of my family our friends were available to help. Not even with the loading/unloading, but it would have been heavenly if we had someone at least offer to lend a hand with the kids.
There wasn't even very much to load, but with just Richard and I doing it, while tripping over, and constantly breaking up kid arguments, trying to contain wandering Connor, it took us an entire day to mostly load the truck. We ended up spending Saturday night at the old place, camped out on the living room floor with the kids and a TV. Then most of Sunday morning to tie up the loose ends, and clean up before we made the two hour drive up here.
It then took us 5 hours, FIVE hours to unload a 14' truck (again, while tripping over children, breaking up fights/arguments and containing the always wandering into danger, Connor)
Now that we're here...the fridge is still outside (can't get through the door with the fridge doors on, and go figure the size socket we need to get them off, is the only one Richard does not have in his tool box) The stove can't be hooked up until the appliance guy gets here to convert it from propane to city gas (my dad gave us this nearly brand new stove, and found the conversion kit and manual after we already left). My washer also needs the repair man to figure out what the knocking sound is that prevents it from working properly. OH, and my dryer isn't functioning yet because the electrician needs to come back out and put the right plug on it (newer 4 prong)
Thank goodness I have a working coffee maker!
There are boxes everywhere. And I'm not exactly sure where to begin, but I'm trying...slowly but surely.
Goodness I'm sore!

Hang in there, Dear. One day, a few years from now, it will be a pleasant memory. “Moving in our own house away from that horrible country, with a yarn store around the corner and TV choices to make.”

Look at it on the bright side. You have a high speed internet connection (said by a true geek!).
