Pass the ritalin

April 7th, 2006

FlowerbasketThat ADD is creeping in again. I could blame it on Stephanie for wearing her stunning Flower Basket Shawl last night, coercing inspiring me. But instead, I'll say that upon seeing her wearing it, I
did actually remember that I paid a small fortune for this now out of
print and hard to find copy of Interweave Knits Fall 2004, just for the Flower Basket Shawl pattern. And since I'm so sick of knitting socks right now, what else can I do, but start yet another project?

Please don't remind me of the still sleeveless Rogue sitting in my ottoman. The bulbs are blooming, our trees are sprouting buds, and a damn bluejay nearly drives me to knit acrylic, from outside my bedroom window, every morning. My dear Rogue, I do believe you may remain sleeveless until October.

So a stash diving I go, and this is what I come up with. Four skeins of dusty lavender Brown Sheep Cotton Fine (is it enough? I don't know) Or this big beautiful 8oz skein of hand dyed Licorice Twist from Little Turtle Knits (is THIS enough?) I do know that I want a larger shawl than what she wears in the picture, and these Flower Basket Shawl notes clearly suggest a larger gauge yarn. Cara's Cotton Fine shawl is amazing. And so is Carrie's. I'm at a loss which route to go. I just know that I am not buying more yarn (and you can hold me to that!)

And since its so dark and dreary today, the house pictures I offer are of our front door. Big whoop you say? Well, considering until this morning, that door did not open, I'd say it is a big whoop! We're not quite sure why the door did not want to open, but it was stuck in a big way. For some reason today I decided to try it, and it opened (not easily mind you, but it opened) My guess is that perhaps the colder weather was to blame. In any case, the door is still being replaced, and soon.
As you can see, the porch is just crying out to be scraped and painted.. (a task I'm actually looking forward to!) And in the picture looking down the steps to the street, you can see a light pole in serious disrepair (that will go too)
But before we even drove up here to see the house, the picture given to us, just showing that front porch made me want this house. I do indeed see the forest through the trees!

The FBS was my first lace - it was a great project! One thing about the cotton fine - it hasn’t held it’s shape. If I were to wear it for fancy again, I’d reblock it. (Whereas my wool DFS is still super blocked.)

Mama, is this YOUR house? Like, not a rental? Have I been that out of the loop?

Okay, so you know how I sometimes sorta skim while I’m reading — well, sometimes my eyes just JUMP. Like just now, to the pictures of your front door and I’m thinking to myself, “Ohmygod, I love Twirly’s front porch — I’d want to live there!” and then, lo and behold, you fell in love with the front porch first thing! (With me it was the door, the stairs, and the colonnade sealed it…)

LOVED the video blog clip — HILARIOUS!! I actually enjoyed the whole thing, so was kinda primed for the knitting bit. ; )

Love your front porch view with the little built in bench, whether it needs paiting or not, it’s loverly… and I have to ask cuz I have been trying to oeverpay for a back issue of that IK Fall 2004, how did you find your overpriced copy? There are like 7 patterns I wanted from that magazine and I never picked it up…

I’m in love with your porch too! Those benches are going to be great in the summertime. I can’t tell from the pictures, is it quite a ways down a hill to the street level?

Yeah.. that shawl is going to be beautiful.. I’m very, VERY jealous, so.. um.. I have an idea!

.. when you’re done, maybe you could gift that pattern to a certain someone who doesn’t have it.. cause God knows it’s illegal to just copy it.. right?

    Just sayin’ *grin*
