So sad its funny
April 20th, 2006So yesterday evening, Richard scrambles into the house from the office, and sits down to get busy. A last minute project at work, has really kept him hopping at the office, and it was the final day. Since what he was doing, would go much faster on the PC at home (he has a mac in the office) he came home to work. About two hours into said work, from the living room where I sit knitting, I hear "SHIIIIT!" and "Carla, come here".
Not your typical "blue screen of death" was sitting there. This was a blue screen we've never seen before. We tried restarting, with no avail. Neither of our two hardrives would boot, and before too long, it started beeping at us, saying keyboard failure. The assumption? A fried motherboard. If anyone has any other ideas, please tell.
Granted we've had this pc for a few years, but new it had a near 4k pricetag (can you say fully loaded?) I'm hoping it IS the motherboard, and we can just replace that. We really cannot afford another 4k computer, not now, and not anytime soon.
So anyway, Richard was rushing around at 10PM, just about to get dressed and head back to the office, when I suggested that possibly he could use one of the laptops we have here. Sure enough, yes he could. I was long asleep by the time he came to bed.
Of all times for it to go kerplunk, right in the middle of his project scramble.
Annnd, Someone is spoofing my domain (mylittletribe.com) and sending spam from it. I'm not even sure how to freaking fix that one.
Its definitely a Calgon sort of day.
Around a year ago on this day..

Don’t forget I was the computer tech at school for three years! The keyboard error may be something silly, don’t sound the death knell yet. Does Richard know anything about going into the BIOS. Also has it been keeping good time lately? The battery may be bad in the motherboard. They are cheap hearing aid batteries, you might try replacing that and if Richard feels comfortable going into the BIOS he should take a look around. What are the specs of the PC and what kind of BIOS does ot have? (Award for example?)

Also can you boot from a floppy?

L, I can’t email you, all of my domain stuff is down and has been since this morning, UGH!
I almost called you last night, but was more focused on getting Richard immediately in front of a working computer so he could finish the project. Figured we’d troubleshoot the pc today.
I’ll probably call you at some point! And no, Richard isn’t afraid of going into BIOS or opening the case…he used to do support as well, but that blue screen we saw, was not a familiar one, and what it told us to change in BIOS, was not in the BIOS at all. Now we can’t get it anywhere but black screen, blinking cursor and keyboard failure error. Not sure if it will go into bios now.

I’m not an expert on computers, but if you do need a new Motherboard then I know my hubby would suggest tigerdirect.com. They’re supposed to have good prices and they ship pretty fast. I hope things work out with your husband’s project. I know how inconvenient it is to not have a computer for personal stuff.
