A shapely new me
May 3rd, 2006
So what does "a shapely new me" have to do with my new yarn purchase, huh? Well, turns out I'm down about 65lbs since last summer (come on, some applause please) Much like how I just stopped biting my nails when I was pregnant with Connor (and I was a lifelong nailbiter) I just started eating better last summer. Honestly, I'm not quite sure what it is. My tastes suddenly changed, I didn't crave sweets much anymore, and coaching soccer certainly helped. But here I am, 10 months later, down 4 sizes (nearing the 5th if I can shape these thighs of mine) and I find myself fitting into things I never imagined I'd wear. Like strappy summer tank tops and summer dresses. Imagine my delight last night when I went bra shopping and I'm no longer stuck in the section where all you'll find is thick shoulder straps and four rows of hook and eye closures! Yeah baby!
Anyway, back to the important stuff.. the yarn. Last weekend when Kris was here, we got out for a while with Cassidy in tow for some girl time, so I dragged them to Mission Rose to I blow my gift certificate. Cassidy was totally enamored with the handcrafted beaded knitting needles, and Kris was completely bored (she called it the "yawn store", but just you wait girlfriend, once you get that knitting thing down, you won't be yawning!) while I spun in circles trying to figure out what to buy. I ended up with 10 hanks of Berocco Touche (cotton/modal rayon) which is absolutely delightful to fondle, and I'm never this in love with cottons. So to celebrate my new shapely self.. a hand knit strappy tank is in order. I'm leaning towards Sigma @ knitty.com or Honeymoon @ knitty.com (but I've made one already for my sister, and I'd like something new) I also have the ChicKami pattern and the LTK Mama Halter pattern, but neither of those are exactly what I was looking for (think more sexy, yada yada) So I'm open to suggestions by you knitterly folk.
And since we're talkin' fiber here.. an update on the spinning of my lovely lime merino. I'm enjoying it, but I'm still overspinning. I've realized there is a very very fine line between perfection and overspinning. I'm finding that this merino requires a lot more twist or else it just falls apart, but I think I'm way over doing it. None the less, I'm still lovin' spinning. Ohhhhhhhhmmmmm
Around a year ago on this day..

you go that’s fantastic. I tried to do it myself last year that’s how I ended up 15 lbs lighter at the end of the year but I needed a bit more discipline myself.
I love the Shapely Tank Top:

Congrats on the weight loss. I need to lose that much exactly. You are an inspiration. I wish you the best on making a smaller top.

Wahoo on looking svelt!
I think when you ply the twist may loosen. Don’t fret.
What do I know!

Merino is very fine and very fine is hard for a beginning spinner. Medium is easier…you won’t be as prone to overtwist but that’s a very common beginner’s problem. Let the thread wind on the bobbin quicker and slow down the treadling or and/increase the tension a bit. We can work on that when you come. Maybe save the merino and try it again in a few months. Speaking of visits, are we omn for this Sunday? Saturday is ok too, NYSMA isn’t until next weekend. BTW the green stuff looks gorgeous.

BTW I absolutely adore that apricot color wool. It is one of my favorite colors. I managed to get some onion skins to give me that color dye many years ago. I also bought some Gaywool dye a few years ago that is something like that color.

I love the lime green! I, too, have the problem of over spinning.
