Can you say wool?
May 8th, 2006
Pardon the fuzzy picture. Wonky camera from hell is back to its old tricks. But here is the wonderful wool that Loren sent me home with. She insists its not much, however for a new spinner like me,.. this is the motherlode. Isn't it fab? I wish you could smell it. I looooove the smell of lanolin. I just need to scrub down the spare screen I have so that I have a place to dry this lovliness once I start washing it.
And here is some merino roving that I dyed up last week. This was my first try dyeing roving and I have to say, its so much more forgiving than yarn. I did a pre-soak in water and vinegar, while mixing up my dye (emerald green/skyblue/silver gray Jacqard Acid dye from dharmatrading.com), then layed the roving in an old turkey roaster, single layer, and poured the dye in sections, baked in the oven for 30min at 300 degrees. I tend to use these colors a lot when I get on a dyeing kick. The hues always remind me of Georgia O'Keeffe, whose art I absolutely adore.
On Sunday, Beth invited me to come along with her to her spinning guild in Elbridge. I had a great time talking and hanging out with Beth and meeting everyone in the guild. I'll definitely be joining. Thanks Beth! And Mia, we missed you!
