It must be summer - poison ivy

July 12th, 2006

D_poisonivy_mondayI took this picture of Dylan on Monday when I was playing with the Sony Cybershot. I had noticed the little red splotches but thought it was because of the heat (it was damn hot and humid that day). Poison ivy hadn't even entered my mind at that point because over the weekend the only thing we did was attend the party at my sister's house. The kids played basketball, football, and stayed in the yard.

Today this is what he looks like (and the flash is washing out most of the red!) His right eye is quite swollen too, but on this dark, dreary, rainy Wednesday, I couldn't get a decent picture. His face seems to be the worst, but he also has it all over his hands, tummy, and back.
Compound this wee problem.. Richard now has it too on his neck and chin, undoubtedly from holding Dylan on his lap or carrying him.
I called Tracy to inquire about the presence of poison ivy on her property, and as it turns out, there was some on the front hill. The kids were not on the front hill. But at one point the basketball rolled down the hill through the weeds near the road, so I walked through and retrieved the ball. The ball must have rolled through it.
I may end up callilng the pediatrician before the end of the day. I'm a bit worried about the swelling of the right eye, and this nasty stuff spreading. Right now we're using Ivy Dry on his legs, arms and trunk, and clear calamine lotion on his face. Poor kid is so itchy though!

Around a year ago on this day..
