Annnnd, its Monday again.
October 16th, 2006Annnnd, I'm feeling better this week. Mostly because I finally spoke to someone at the insurace company from hell, who was seriously compassionate, bent a teensy rule (in timing only) and approved the prescription drug I had been stomping my feet over. Yay for compassionate people!
And a YAY for some very fine folks who are sending me Cascade Fixation, bulky and regular, as well as some other uber soft chemo cap appropriate yarns. I will be a knitting fool I tell ya.. knitting chemo caps into the New Year! One knitter, actually trained in neuro oncology at UPenn, where Krissy is, lost her mom to lymphoma, and is "close to the cause". I cannot thank y'all enough.. seriously.
I did want to get started right away, so I made a stop at Mission Rose over the weekend to pick up 2 balls of Calmer. I broke my yarn diet, but does it really count? I mean its NOT stash yarn, and its for a good cause, right? I think I'll cut myself some slack on that.
I started a Shedir almost immediately, and I'm into the third pattern repeat. The cable rows slow me down, because there are so many cable crosses, but in the end, it will be a quick knit. The Calmer is like buttah, and I hope Llamie likes the colors I picked (shes a very neutral gal.. so I decided to start with basic black, and a nice chocolate brown)

Its not all chemo caps though. I need to finish the socks I started before the chemo-cap-a-thon. The last two balls of fixation I had in my stash were a gift from Kira well over a year ago, and I was quite sick of knitting Broadripple socks, so I searched the blogosphere for other fixation sock patterns. All of them are nice, but I really loved these Lace Wing Socks. Its a very quick knit, considering I finished ankle heel and part of the foot within 24 hours early last week. I did a bit more while I visited with the gals at Starbucks on Saturday morning, but admitedly most of my knitting on it of late has been un-knitting about 20 rows to fix an error in the lace. I'm back at it though, and these will be worked on in between more important knitting.
I need to find some time to knit myself a scarf too. In my old age, I find that I require more layers of warmth. I've never been a scarf person really, however, my constantly cold hands, feet and neck are telling me to give in.
This is some lovely hand painted wool in fall colors from handpaintedyarn.com that was gifted to me a year ago by my awesome Secret Pal during SP7. Its high time I wound this up and cast it on!

[...] I used size 8 needles with 2 hanks of the Handpainted Yarns “Robles” that I posted about a while back. The wavy pattern doesn’t show up so well in the image, but its there in real life. Maybe I should block it? In any case.. I love it. In fact I wore it out yesterday paired with my favorite Gap turtleneck sweater. I even got a compliment on it while I was in AC Moore getting more supplies for felted clogs. I still have another hank left, along with a hank of a complimentary sage green. I may pair those two up and make a hat or mittens. [...]
