Oh.My.Fibery.Goodness... There is amazing dark chocolate from Endangered Species and Java Truffles from Lake Champlain (which, I've never mentioned that I am in love with!). Homemade cranberry pistachio biscotti and divinity that Julie blogged about last week (how lucky am I?!?) A sheepie notepad, and the fiber, OH, the fiber... Four ounces of Wensleydale in the colorway "Daylily" from McKnits Two ounces of Bombyx Top in the colorway "Mesa" from Chasing Rainbows at Crown Mountain Farms and 7 ounces of an un-labeled wool batt in green/blue/brown (I'm going to guess Grafton Fibers, Julie correct me if I'm wrong). The Fiber is lovely, chocolate and sweets are always appreciated, however, Julie's note actually made me cry...

Give Kris a big ole welcome home on Thursday from me! I’m glad to see Ferdinand made it safely and didn’t get waylaid by any nasty pirates. Way back when I used to live in a town that claimed to have some treasure buried somewhere by the infamous Jean Lafitte so you know I was a tad worried.

Awesome package! And you were such a cheerleader for me during the buccanneering — you deserve it all!

It all looks so yummy — both the yarn and the fiber!

[...] What a wonderful day of spinning! Not only did I finally finish up the alpaca single I’ve been working on, I learned to navajo ply! Christina gave me a quick lesson, and although I can’t really do it her way very well, I at least figured out the mechanism and the online videos and tutorials make much more sense. In fact when I got home I finished up the fruit salad targhee that I started at the guild meeting, then used up the little bit of natural brown corriedale I had leftover from Mom’s Christmas skein. Look closely at the fruit salad, you can see some oopsies. The corriedale though… pure perfection! So after I finished up navajo plying every spare single I had on a bobbin (ok, not the alpaca, I think I’m going to ply that with the bombyx Julie sent me) I decided to start spinning the beautiful green/blue/brown bat that Julie also sent in that package. This would be my first time spinning from a bat, so I was interested at guild to see how others prepared the wool. Beth, pulls off strips and spins them, but another member of the guild, Kathy, advised spinning back and forth like an accordion or zigzag, so as to eliminate joining more wool. Wow, how easy! And this bat is spinning up in such an unexpected way! The various shades of brown and green in the bat spin into muted golds and bronzes. Combine that with the green and blue and its just remarkable beauty! I’ll snap a shot of the singles once I get more spun, but I though the bat hanging from my wheel looked pretty cool. [...]
