The four letter word (and more grumpiness)

December 7th, 2006

I'm not as grumpy as I was yesterday, but I'm still grumpy. The four letter word, also known as snow, is making its first big dump on us of the season, and I'm not at all happy about it. In fact, this is how you can tell I'm getting old... I'm dreaming of a winter home in a warmer climate. Of course this totally contradicts my dream of having a small farm somewhere here in the northeast, now doesn't it? This should give you some idea of my extremely fickle personality, and general indecisiveness. But its about the time when the snow stops coming each season that I actually get used to it. I know.. I'm weird. I've decided to embrace my weirdness, and I know Richard has too.

There is some new knitting going on.. Anemoi Mittens via of the always amazing Eunny. I dug through my stash yesterday, which seriously lacks fingering wool, only to come up with some Kroy Sock yarn that I will never knit into socks. Not the most ideal yarn for this project, but a trip to the yarn store, or a click happy frenzy at any yarn site is out of the question. Make do with what I've got is the way to go. My main color is a solid cream Kroy, and the contrasting color is a variegated red/blue/green/yellow.. the same yarn I used for my Sock Pal, Annie's Retro Rib Socks. It will be interesting to see the color changes once I get to the actual mitten part. For now I'm stuck in corrugated rib HELL.. It may be the new year before I get to the fun part of the mitten, and I'm sure a second mitten will be excruciating to start. Picture it, I know you can.. me, debating an actual second mitten, trying to tell myself that the second mitten, lacking the corrugated rib, is really ok.. no one will notice.. riiiight?

I've also started the Malagaiter from the new issue of Mag Knits, (the pennant pleating version). I'm using some leftover hand dyed Cascade Eco Wool, and its perfect TV knitting - not too fussy a pattern, and easy to memorize. I may take some pictures later, once I get my arse outside to make a run around the perimeter of the house, making sure all toys and other oddities are picked up prior to the snowfall, which has already started.

I mentioned yesterday, a forthcoming post of Christmas knitting.. and I just didn't have the time to address it. Well, I'll make it short. Since I got a late start this year.. I've decided to just not do any for my extended family. I already told my sister, do not expect hand knit socks this year, which was received with a sigh. I just.don't.have.time, nor am I in the mood to knit myself ragged into the wee hours of the night trying to get everything done. It makes knitting no fun at all. I feel badly about it.. but..  my mental health is far more valuable this year.

Around a year ago on this day..
