St Distaff’s Day
January 7th, 2007Today is January 7th, and St Distaff's Day... marking an end to the Christmas season.
Can I be the first to say "hip hip hooray, its over!"? Twas yet another holiday season full of stress, and completely un-enjoyable - I seriously cried more than I laughed. So good riddance Holiday season! Adios!
I'm giving you one more try Christmas, but if you don't play nice next year.. I'm giving up on you!
So anyway.. while many craft groups make a point of gathering on this day, its a little ironic that today is a normally scheduled spinning guild meeting, and our first of the new year! I should really go dust off my wheel.. I don't think I've had time to spin since the December meeting!
Partly work and partly play
You must on St. Distaffs Day:
From the plough soon free your team;
Then cane home and fother them:
If the maids a-spinning go,
Burn the flax and fire the tow.
Bring in pails of water then,
Let the maids bewash the men.
Give St. Distaff' all the right:
Then bid Christmas sport good night,
And next morrow every one
To his own vocation.'
In other projects: Ryan's Weasley has a finished back, and I'm just about to start the intarsia "R" on the front. I can see having this done by the weekend (the front that is, not sure about the whole thing!). Birthday sock hasn't been touched since I've been spending all my time on Weasley. And something I haven't talked about recently is the Fair Isle Bag (see knit along link on the sidebar) I purposely put this off until after the holiday. Although I'm still up to my eyeballs in projects, I really want to get started on this!
Around a year ago on this day..
- What a way to start the week - 2008

See ya at the Spinning Guild meeting. I, too, haven’t spun since sometime in December. Dust will be flying.
Hope next Christmas is better for you and your family.
