St Distaff’s Day Report
January 8th, 2007What a wonderful day of spinning! Not only did I finally finish up the alpaca single I've been working on, I learned to navajo ply! Christina gave me a quick lesson, and although I can't really do it her way very well, I at least figured out the mechanism and the online videos and tutorials make much more sense. In fact when I got home I finished up the fruit salad targhee that I started at the guild meeting, then used up the little bit of natural brown corriedale I had leftover from Mom's Christmas skein. Look closely at the fruit salad, you can see some oopsies. The corriedale though... pure perfection!

So after I finished up navajo plying every spare single I had on a bobbin (ok, not the alpaca, I think I'm going to ply that with the bombyx Julie sent me) I decided to start spinning the beautiful green/blue/brown bat that Julie also sent in that package. This would be my first time spinning from a bat, so I was interested at guild to see how others prepared the wool. Beth, pulls off strips and spins them, but another member of the guild, Kathy, advised spinning back and forth like an accordion or zigzag, so as to eliminate joining more wool. Wow, how easy! And this bat is spinning up in such an unexpected way! The various shades of brown and green in the bat spin into muted golds and bronzes. Combine that with the blue/turquoise and its just remarkable beauty! I'll snap a shot of the singles once I get more spun, but I thought the bat hanging from my wheel looked pretty cool.

And lastly a shout out to the resident voyeur, or stalker has we'll now refer to him. I saw a few more visits in the site stats. Ya know, if you were a knitter I might understand. A spinner, I could go along with that. If you had been a friend or professional colleague of Richard's it would all make sense. But thats not the case. Your just creepy.
Around a year ago on this day..

I am ashamed to say I didn’t even touch my wheel yesterday. I really need to give it some quality time or it will think it is unloved:(

Shoot! I missed St. Distaff’s day. I did knit with the Friday night Spinner’s though! Very interesting the method for spinning off a batt. I’ll need to try that sometime.

All of your spinning looks great. You’ll have to teach me to Navajo ply.

Gorgeous colors! And I’m all caught up with your blog…what a beautiful quilt & well deserved, what progress on your projects! And what is up with this low life, poor excuse of a pig that is stalking a knitting & parenting type of blog. Seriously…do we have gonads? Do we have a life? *Waves to stalker pig…get a life*

Uh, I visit your site from time to time and don’t leave a comment, so don’t think I’m the stalker! I met you I think in May at a spinning fest outside Fayetteville. I’m a friend of Beth’s.
Your yarn looks great by the way.

What videos did you use for the Navajo plying? Diod you see my attempts on my blog?

You must show me too how to do that! I get nervous using my hand spun perhaps I should try it on already spun yarn, just to practice. I love love love that batt of greens and browns. Can’t wait to see it all spun up. I plyed my “gay pride” I have to devote a post to that. It now has a new name! But I don’t want to give it away….. I want to get together with you and Loren! Sounds fun!
