Moving on (and Happy Easter)
April 8th, 2007Since the Sun Ray Shawl was finished, and I was in total shawl mode, I attempted to pick up the Wing Of The Moth again. Upon pulling it out of its hiding place, I noticed that several stitches fell off the needle, not to mention that my row counter was missing. I sat and looked at it for a while, to figure out if I could find what row I left off at, or if I would be able to fix the dropped stitches for that matter. But the executive decision was to just pull it all off the needles and start fresh. This decision was based more on my utter lack of love for the yarn I was originally using - Dale Baby Ull. In all honesty, I actually do love Dale Baby Ull, just not for this particular project, nor on Clover bamboo needles. I have several skeins of Elsbeth Lavold Silky Wool, that was purchased specifically with Wing Of The Moth in mind, and I was so close to pulling them out and casting on, but Spring Things kept calling screaming to me...
I'm only one repeat away from finishing the first chart, which for me, seems like incredible progress. However, I had started out using a Clover circular, which as we know, does not have the best needle tips for knitting lace. Since knitting so slow was really bugging me, I started calling around to the local yarn stores looking for Addi Turbo Lace needles (no one had them-no one had even heard of them!) so my last ditch solution was to get some Susan Bates needles from AC Moore. The joins are driving me batty, but the tips are pointy, and I'm happy enough for now with the progress.I'm using sage Jaggerspun Zephyr (50/50 wool silk lace weight) that was so graciously gifted to me by my SP8 pal, Tina (thank you Tina! I'm finally putting this to use!)
Ok, other than knitting Spring Things, its been a rather lazy holiday weekend, and I do mean lazy. Much movie watching and playing with the xbox. Anything to keep the kids busy is the name of the game. With another whole week off of school, I need to come up with some activities, and quick.
As for the actual holiday part of this post.. I mucked up on Good Friday by eating meat (ham sandwich at lunch). Historically, my mom calls me on the morning of Good Friday, reminding me not to eat meat - this year she didn't. I'm an athiest.. why do I feel guilty? I guess you could assume its the tradition of it all. And in that case, this year I deserve a big ol' zippo on the tradition scale since I, A) forgot to buy Peeps for the kids baskets (this is a first), and B) I forgot to buy sweet pea seeds. I've never known anyone else with this tradition, however, I grew up planting sweet pea seeds on Easter Sunday. So did my mom, and so did my grandfather. Well, it is in the mid 20s today, with blustery wind and intermittent snow - not exactly ideal seed planting weather in my opinion. Yeah.. thats my excuse. And I'm sticking to it.
Around a year ago on this day..

I really like the new shawl — that’s a great color too! I’m interested in knitting that shawl and also the Moth — all so beautiful!

Wow, you’re making fabulous progress. Did you see someone who joined the knitalong is already finished!

Your lace looks great! Neat tradition, planting sweet pea seeds. There’s a runner who does the Boston Marathon and plants hers the week before the race - um, I guess that would be now. hm…
Happy Easter/Spring Holiday/nice weekend with chocolate!
