Because some people want to know these things.. The sweater is the Heartbreakingly Cute Kimono from Mason Dixon Knitting. I opted for stockinette vs garter and I'm pleased with how it came out, though seaming those backward loop cast on stitches are a bit tricky to do neatly. The matching blue booties are adapted from Christine's Baby Booties to work with a larger gauge yarn. I didn't do any math, just cast on what looked like the right amt of stitches, knit the bottom of the foot until it looked about right, then picked up stitches and knit, again, until it looked right. Admittedly the shaping of the toe required some tinking and re-knitting to get the right shape/size, but overall they only took a little over an hour to complete. And the hat, as I've said in the past, is my staple baby gift because it always fits and its too stinkin' cute.. the Little Turtle Knits Pilot Cap. These three items only required three balls of GGH Tara (I bought 4). If I had purchased 5, I'd probably have matching pants cast on by now.
The cream booties, are also from Christine's pattern, as the pattern is written, using fingering superwash wool (Dale Baby Ull) I was going to match a hat to these but realized I, A) didn't have any more Dale Baby Ull in that color and B) fingering gauge wool can take forever to knit, even a baby hat. Since this new baby is arriving a little early by c-section later this week.. I needed to motor those needles! And lastly, "the baby blanket that will not be done in time". Its just a dishrag pattern (knit 3, yarn over, knit to end.. keep repeating until desired width, then start decreasing one stitch every row) This is using the Dark Horse Acrylic I mentioned last week and honestly, I'm not minding it at all.. its really nice acrylic. I decided to jazz it up a little (and keep the monotonous garter stitch interesting, by changing colors and making stripes every 20 rows.

Now that this is, for the most part ready to be delivered to its recipient, I can go back to Wing Of The Moth (that is if I don't cast on another kimono.. that was a fun knit!)

Around a year ago on this day..

Absolutely adorable! I’ve got baby gift knitting to do myself sometime this summer.

I loved making that kimono. I think I’m going to do the next one in stockingnette also. Of course you booties came out way better than mine. I have bad bootie karma for some reason;)

Wow the Kimono looks really cute. I think I want to try one in stockinette instead of garter…And the whole set together is a thoughtful parcel for a new mum. Nice work!!!
