The Memory Walk

August 27th, 2007

Just last week, I mentioned for the first time, how my grandmother had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Grammy is the second person in our immediate family to be diagnosed, as her husband, and my step-grandfather, Glenn had been diagnosed a decade ago. Uncle Glenn spent his final years in a facility, when the disease had progressed to the point where Grammy could no longer safely care for him. This was a huge blow to the entire family, on so many levels besides also losing Uncle Glenn to this awful disease.

While there are newer treatments available now to help slow the progression of Alzheimer's, until a cure is discovered, the research of this disease must continue. And that research needs funding.

So visit the Memory Walk web site to search when your local Memory Walk will take place. Better yet, become a Team Captain! I did! You can visit Team Martin's page to sponsor us, or if you happen to live in or around Syracuse NY, or will be visiting the area on September 15th, 2007, consider signing up to join Team Martin.

Additionally, I'm having a bit of a contest to help spur sponsorship of Team Martin. Check this blog entry.
