Weekend Wrap

August 20th, 2007

Wow, it was a busy one!

Mom and Gram arrived early on Saturday to spend the day with us. I wish I had the camera out to snap some pictures, but I was so busy cooking and finishing the Deatheater scarf so mom could drive it back to PA and deliver to my brother Jay (and it didn't make it.. it was finished in time, but Mom forgot to take it.)

It was a nice visit, despite a necessary discussion about life insurance policies, beneficiaries, and where necessary paperwork is in safe keeping.. just in case. I haven't talked about it, but my gram was officially diagnosed with alzheimer's disease. I think we all, meaning family, assumed this would come at some point since her memory has been failing for a few years. Even more sad is that I know Gram saw it coming too. Shes made a point over the past few years, to sort of dole out some of her more cherished belongings to myself and my siblings. On one hand, I'm blown away by her foresight in knowing whats coming, and wanting certain items to go to certain grandchildren. On the other, every time she sends me home with something, I'm just sad. Saturday though.. was a good day for her. Sometimes when shes not at home she can get a bit disoriented, but if she was.. it didn't show.

We had been expecting some other special guests to arrive early afternoon before Mom and Grammy had to leave, but they didn't make it in time. Roger, Kris and Owen finally arrived Saturday evening around 6 to spend a night with us on their way to visit with Roger's dad in Rochester. I got to love on my Owie O, snuggle up on my Llamie, and get a signature bear hug from Rog.

We talked, we had cocktails, we played Trivial Pursuit.. and Richard and I got our butts handed to us. In all fairness, they DID have "the easy box" for a while until we complained and they offered to switch. At that point we made a good run at coming back, but fell short. Oh well. Next time we'll beat them :)

And now some pictures..

Roger and Owen watching something on TV.

Roger and Kris both trying hard not to blink (I can't tell you how many shots before this one were taken where at least one of them blinked)

Doesn't she look amazing? The last time I saw Llamie in February, she was trudging through her final round of chemo. Now look at her! I love the short hair style (Llam.. seriously, it looks fab on you.. I think you should keep it like that!)

The Dark Mark Illusion Scarf all done, minus fringe (which I'm not going to put on) in black and green heather Lion Brand Wool-Ease. This project was fast and fun overall, though a real pain in the arse to photograph. I really need to make a larger light box, and purchase some lights, (or buy a bigger one.)

I also finished the Dream Swatch Head Scarf. No pictures yet though. Much too dreary today to get a good picture. I'm hoping to wear it tomorrow to Richard's company picnic though.. Maybe Richard can snap a picture of me wearing it.

Around a year ago on this day..

It is great to see Kris - healthy and smiling! I don’t know her, but I know I was sure pulling for her during that tumultuous time last year. Sounds like an eventful and fun weekend.

It’s good to see Kris’ picture. Things were so crazy, and I remember you not having the baby anymore, but never remembered to ask about her.
