From the mouths of babes
December 14th, 2007Just taking out a minute, in my hyper scramble towards the holidays. Shopping, baking, cleaning, shoveling snow. Oh and a pesky contract knitting deadline in which I'm very likely to pass and be late, by at least one day if I'm to get any sleep at all this week! Again I'm grateful I'm not doing much of any holiday knitting this year, or I'd be in big trouble. I tweaked my right wrist, and as usual with this time of year, my skin is dry and cracking, no matter what brand of lotion I use, or how much I use of it. This ailment has made meeting any sort of knitting deadline a little tricky.
But last night, as I trucked along on the deadline project, Richard helped the kids write letters to Santa. I missed the first part of the conversation, the part in which urged Richard to remind them that there are indeed some children who don't have a light in their home to write their letter to santa. They go to bed hungry at night. And have no heat to keep them warm.
Cassidy proceeds to start her letter to Santa by saying..
Dear Santa,
First, please bring the poor people some light bulbs..
And for some reason, Alex thinks he'll be getting not only a Wii, but also an XBox360, aaannnnd a Playstation 2. Oh.. and an iPod and Gameboy DS!
Dylan, sweet kid.. only wants more Lego Star Wars kits (which are not in the already purchased and nicely tucked in the attic, Santa stash. This means some more shopping.)
Today the skies clear a bit, allowing warmer temperatures to melt the 7" of snow that fell yesterday. This will permit some last minute shopping tonight and tomorrow morning before the skies open wide to take another wintery shit on Saturday evening into Sunday. Oh joy. This also allows time for the glass/window guy to stop by on Saturday to fix the window in Cassidy's room that Alex broke by pushing Connor into it (!!!!) No injuries thankfully (what is it with this kid and windows?) As well as the chimney sweep guy to come inspect the fireplace and give it a cleaning. If it requires any serious repairs, we will not have a fire on Christmas morning and it will have to wait. Keep your fingers crossed that all that is needed is a little cleaning.
Now back to those knitting needles with deadlines..
Around a year ago on this day..

Have you tried the Eucerin cream in the jar? A little before bed works well for me. Aren’t kids great? We get all grumbly about the busyness of the season and then they think something sweet for someone else.

Eucerin is excellent, I worked for the company that makes it. I had so much of it that I still have some in the house. Also Neutrogena foot cream, yes the foot cream. I can’t believe that won’t work for you on your hands. I think it’s even better than Eucerin.

I will third Eucerin creme. It is so thick. Corey’s mom & younger brother have horrible issues with dry skin on their hands & feet and use it. We use it in the winter and I love it. Corey’s mom’s hands crack & bleed horribly in the winter and she uses Bag Balm when she’s really having trouble. Usually she’ll use it at night and then put socks, gloves, etc on her hands.
I love Cassidy’s letter to Santa. Hope Alex isn’t too disappointed.
Feel free to send a little snow down to us. My kids are dying for some.

Hi Carla long time since I commented on your blog ,I have been visiting quite often though. It feels bad to know that you have injured your wrist and that your skin has started cracking. Why don’t you consult a dermatologist he might have a solution for that problem.By the way I have shifted to a custom domain http://www.yathinforever.com so please make the changes in your blogroll. Wishing you a merry christmas and a merrier new year.Take care and I hope that your skin becomes its normal self soon.

Snow? GROSS! I don’t miss it *at all*!
I added you to my blogroll, Carla!
Look for NEEM lotion, or if you can’t find it (best brand is from OrganixSouth, called TheraNeem), get some Neem oil and add a few drops to an unscented lotion, such as Nature’s Gate or Shikai. It is by far, the most healing thing for all skin dryness, eczema, psoriasis, etc.

I fourth the Eucerin cream recommendation. I would also try using a little cortisone cream. I found it helps with the redness, etc. You could also try using some triple antibiotic ointment. I think when your skins is that dry it needs to heal as much as it needs more moisture. Good luck! It’s no fun when your skin is like that.
Too funny about Alex’s wishlist! Ali tried to add something to hers the other day. She just doesn’t want to hear that everyone (including Santa!) has already done their shopping and that she’s missed the deadline!
