About MLT
Why the name "My Little Tribe"? While this has been part of my identity for a long time, I didn't come up with it all by myself.
Once upon a time when we were living in Madison Wisconsin, we were oh so fortunate to have a couple, Grandmommy and Papa Franks to care for our children when needed. Although our relationship started out as a paid child care situation, over time, Grandmommy and Papa became part of the family - surrogate grandparents and parents to us and our children. We still keep in close touch with them, think of them often, and miss them terribly.
But it was Grandmommy, who one day, as I was dropping the kids off for a day at their home, who exclaimed "Look! Its my little tribe arriving!" I just stopped and smiled at her, because that very week, I had been struggling to come up with a name for my then, home business.
It clicked. It made sense. It was perfect.
Since then I've "retired" from my business, but kept the name because it is us. As Richard told me once when we were having a long discussion on race relations, I am no longer a white woman - I am the mother of Indian children - I am the wife of a proud Menominee. And we've made our own Little Tribe.
Cheers,
Carla, matriarch of my little tribe
