The “first annual” birthday surprise contest.

November 1st, 2007

In a few days, on Sunday to be exact, I will celebrate my first annual 39th birthday. This is a big milestone, no? Well, maybe it isn't since I plan to celebrate the same birthday every year from here on out.

So I'd like to entertain a little reversal here, and have a little contest. No answering questions, no donations to charities, just leave a comment telling me about a favorite birthday present you've received. I'll pick one at random on Sunday, November 4th and put together a little surprise package for the winner. See, as much as I love receiving surprises.. I adore putting together surprises for others. If the winner is a knitter or spinner, perhaps you'll get a nice fibery surprise in the mail. If you're not, maybe an Amazon or iTunes gift certificate... I have lots of ideas!

And here, I'll get you started. What is my favorite birthday present? Cassidy! She was born just a few months shy of my 30th birthday, and I had always wanted a baby before I turned 30 (weird.. I know!) But besides all of that, Richard and I were both surprised, since we had always thought our path to parenthood would be a difficult one. We were looking at facing lengthy and heartbreaking fertility cycles.. then there it was.. a positive pregnancy test, all on our own. And after a rocky first trimester, when we were expecting the worst to happen every day, despite bed rest and progesterone supplements, we were truly blessed... just in time to fulfill my 30th birthday wish.

Now, go, and tell me all about your favorite birthday present! As you can tell, it doesn't have to be a "thing", it can be "the perfect day", a great meal... anything.

P.S. Scorpios Rule!

Three years!

March 11th, 2007

A day late, and a dollar short (aint that the truth!)

But anyway, yesterday was my three year blogiversary. I intended to post to celebrate, but the day got away from me (A girl scouts outing, a sick kid, a cooking marathon in the kitchen including baba ganouj, chocolate chip pumpkin bars, and Carole's chicken tomato stroganoff. I know - weird combos, but I had some cravings)

Anyway, its been three years.

Heres to many more!

Random Tuesday

February 13th, 2007

Rogue? Done! I actually got it done about an hour before meeting the gals at Panera on Sunday (and I wore it - unblocked!) It fits, it received kudos, and I'll show it off soon (if the sunshine cooperates they'll be modeled pictures! Possibly even this afternoon.)

Firstly - I won something! Marisol had a little contest - And I WON! Thank you Marisol! Now I need to get my hands on that Yarntini yumminess myself!
I'm now trying to finish up the last details of a baby knit - and a dusty blue Shedir for Kris, (and I've also cast on a black Calmer Shedir as well. Will I get them both done before I get to Kris' house? We'll see!) But I'm feeling the urge to complicate my life a little and take a challenge. So I've been haunting Nordic Fiber Arts, and have totally fallen in love with Poetry In Stitches, specifically, this sweater, and this one, oh - this one too. I'm going to have to save some pennies for a kit, so perhaps this will be my summer project?

What got me thinking about it, is that I remember reading a blog entry last year that was linked from someone else, about a finished, steeked cardigan. Its the sweater that got me seriously thinking about fair isle, but more specifically, steeking. Lots of google searching over the weekend led me to Tigers in Red Weather's Ingeborg, but the sweater in my memory all this time, had more of a rose motif - so I'm not sure if this is the one or not. Perhaps I should really challenge myself and just design it? (Yeah right!)

So anyway - we're cautiously watching the weather today. We're to leave on our trip tomorrow evening, but a monster of a storm is heading east. Though it looks like locally we'll be somewhat ok, where we need to drive appears to be getting slammed. Lets just hope its all done and cleaned up before we leave!

Rambling

February 7th, 2007

So its been a few days - and its still cold. Not as cold as Monday, but still - cold. People keep calling us and asking how much snow has fallen after watching the national news, assuming we're being pounded with the ungodly amount of snow just north of here in Oswego county (as of this morning approximately 5 feet of snow in the past few days!) Let me just say, this is reason number one, that Syracuse is as far north as I'm willing to go!

I haven't touched Rogue in a few days, opting instead for some quick baby knits that need to be done ASAP for a little one's impending arrival. Pictures to come later this week when I'm all done with the gifties - maybe not - the mama in question reads this blog!
And today is LOST DAY! The long winter hiatus is over! Woo!

Oh, yeah, the sniveling little stalker/voyeur/mini-creep is still hovering around here. Give a shout out to the creepy Little man. I'm not sure if he's waiting for me to shower him with praises or hes just a little glutton for punishment - whatever floats your little boat dude!

Whew, we’re up again!

December 31st, 2006

What a week (in more ways than one!)

I have plenty to post about this past week, a rant, some knitting, holiday happenings.. but I wanted to get this out right away.

See, chances are you tried to come here all week.. and got a server not found error? And the rest of you came here and wondered where the hell I was all week, right? Well, a router went wonky from what I'm told, and half of the country couldn't resolve the dns or ip, or something or other. Many days went by with one company saying "its not us" and the other company saying "nope not us either". But finally... YAY... we're working again!

Totally random

November 9th, 2006

My appearance online has been sporadic this week, what with Election Day and all. You would think I'd be here gloating, but I'm not going to... because democrats are not off the hook.

We worked hard.. we gave money, we volunteered, made phone calls and urged our family and friends to vote. We got out the vote. And now its time to crack the whip and fix our country. As Peter Parker's Uncle Ben says, "Remember, with great power comes great responsibility".

With that said.. of course I haven't been able to wipe the grin off my face.

More total randomness.. LOST sucked last night. Seriously. They billed it as this huuuuge amazing show, with an incredible cliff-hanger. Just more questions (like who the hell is Jacob and why does he have a list? And why did Ben ask if Alex asked about him? When Juliette said they took Alex "home".. what the hell does that mean?) I'll probably come back in February, however I'll be doing so grudgingly. They need to answer some freaking questions already. Or better yet perhaps they should try to get some of the Weeds writers on staff. Apparently the LOST writers are losing their edge.

OH.. and a very belated THANK YOU to my Secret Pal. My birthday was this past Saturday and she sent me an amazon.com gift certificate. I'm soooo not sure what to blow it on. I'm heading into a history/politics phase, and have been craving the works of Thomas Jefferson, and Thomas Paine... I just may spend it on some of that!

LOST.. yer losin’ me guys

November 2nd, 2006

If you don't watch LOST, you can skip this entry..

What a freakin' bummer. Seriously. They've gone and killed off possibly the most interesting character yet, while introducting two new characters this season who are dull, boring and just blah. So blah, that I can't even remember their names.
I have to say, I'm not finding this LOST season particularly good so far. With only one more show before the unprecidented "hiatus" until spring.. I'm not left with high hopes.  The show's best characters so far this season have been largely ignored, while emphasis on "The Others" really hasn't answered many questions. And speaking of that.. there are still questions from SEASON ONE that are still unanswered.. and I'm growing bored waiting. Oh, and the polar bear schtuff.. lame, even for network tv.
Seriously, they're losing me fast.

With that said, serious Must See TV.. "Weeds". Incredible "season finale".. INCREDIBLE. And "Heroes" is quickly becoming an obsession for me. Watch it LOST guys.. your slipping from my top spot!

Save the cheerleader.. Save the world.

Heads up - Possible downtime - new domains

September 9th, 2006

Hi y'all.

I found out tonight that my hosting service is moving to a new server over the next few days. And because the asshole who initially registered my domain 5 years ago (the company I originaly hosted with, not my current host) is an official reseller for names4ever.com, I have been unable to get into change my nameserver settings (registry number and password lost in the PC's hard drive death)
Well screw him, AND names4ever (for not helping me get in and insisting I try to contact the reseller who never answers emails).. I went ahead and transferred my .com domain. In addition I bought mylittletribe.net AND mylittletribe.org. So the transferring domain (.com) will very likely have some downtime. But since .net and .org should be resolving by the end of the weekend, you can expect those to have less downtime (maybe just a day as I switch nameservers and reinstall wordpress and all backups)

Wish me luck!
